Take a walk around the old town. Dizzyingly steep streets with peeping views of the pretty Iglesia de la Encarnación support white washed houses, and little plazas. Mopeds fly around the narrow lanes - a reminder of which century you're in - but the town is so typical of many in Andalucía and still allows visitors a glimpse back in time, to the many Roman remains which are perfectly preserved and can still be seen there.

Castle

On the many beaches of Almunecar, fishing boats with faded pastel hulls lie at rest on the shore while fishermen straighten their nets ready for the night's trip out to sea. Visitors to Almunecar can  just laze around in the sun or float around in the warm Mediterranean waters during the day and the whole image is one of relaxed integration between past and future, for residents and visitors alike.

Outdoors in the evening

When dusk falls Almunecar becomes a different world, with many restaurants and bars opening up, some late into the night. The variety of food is excellent, and very cheap compared with many other town in Spain, and tapas are served free with every drink you purchase.
